Navy vet gets help setting up holiday decorations

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A local navy veteran who suffers from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, got in the holiday spirit with the help of Home Depot.

Eric Amador served in the Persian Gulf War and has also served as security chef for Presidents Obama and George H.W. Bush. He was diagnosed with ALS last year, and it's begun to impact his walking, breathing and speaking.

Workers at the Home Depot in Selma heard his story and decided to help by decorating his home for the holidays. "Normally I do the decorations and this year I wouldn't have done it," Amador said. "I've been blessed."

The Amador family has had to make modifications for their home to meet Eric's needs. They are currently seeking help applying for a specialty adaptive housing grant from the Veterans Affairs office.
