Former Los Banos teacher pleads no contest to child sex charges

Former Los Banos teacher Gary Bettencourt pled no contest Friday to multiple counts of unlawful sex with a minor.

Bettencourt, 40, taught at Los Banos High from 2002 to 2010 and was working at Pacheco High at the time of his arrest.

He and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Devyn Egan, were arrested in February after detectives said the two molested one of the three victims.

Egan is also one of Bettencourt's former students, police said.

Bettencourt will be in court September 23 for sentencing. Egan will also be in court that day for her preliminary hearing.
