Merced Police investigating first homicide of the year

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man is dead Sunday evening after being assaulted in Merced, the Merced Police Department said.

Police said the attack happened at R and 13th Streets and describe the victim as a Hispanic man in his mid-30s.

No suspect information has been released and detectives are in the area investigating what happened.

This is the first homicide of 2016 in Merced, according to police.
