CHP investigates shooting along Highway 99 near 180
The California Highway Patrol is investigating a shooting along Highway 99 northbound near 180.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno man is recovering after he was shot while driving on Highway 99, near the exit ramp to Highway 180.

Investigators for the highway patrol are working to piece together what happened Sunday night.

The victim is still in the hospital but is expected to survive. It's not clear if he was a targeted, or if this was a random shooting. The Honda minivan was raked with bullets and one or more hit the driver, Shay Vue.

The 32-year-old man was taken to a local hospital. The highway patrol says his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

According to the highway patrol, Vue had just pulled onto Highway 99 from Fresno Street, when a burst of gunfire came from a passing vehicle.

Hector Madrigal of the California Highway Patrol said, "The vehicle was struck at least six times, we know of by bullets. They pulled over immediately."

A passenger identified as 24-year-old Tristan Paguio of Los Angeles called 911.

The highway patrol does not have a description of the vehicle the shots came from. CHP investigators are not saying if they know why the shooting occurred.

"We don't know if this was associated with a feud that occurred on the highway or any of that," Madrigal said.

According to court documents, the victim does have a criminal history, which includes firearms violations and gang membership.

While it's not clear if this victim was specifically targeted, the highway patrol is certain this shooting is not connected to the recent series of vehicle shootings on rural roads in Fresno and Madera Counties.
