FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A longtime Fresno tradition will now have a heavier police presence after multiple people reported their vehicles were hit with objects at Christmas Tree Lane recently.

"This is something we haven't had in the past. We have officers now aware of this and they are in the area where this happened at. We hope this doesn't happen again," said Lt. Mark Hudson.

Adriana Flores says she will not be going back to the popular holiday spot anytime soon after the windshield on her Dodge Stratus was shattered by someone throwing rocks causing a couple of hundreds worth of damage.

"It sounded like gunshots, because of the first loud bang. I know it might have hit a car before me because that's what it sounded like. I didn't know what it was until I saw the rocks lying in the roadway," said Flores.

According to police, just North of Shields Avenue at the beginning of the holiday decorations someone on or around the Railroad Bridge near East Andrews Avenue started throwing rocks to unsuspecting motorists below just before 7 p.m. Monday.

Multiple cars received damage from the thrown objects and at least one woman was taken to the hospital after getting hit in the head.

"The one victim who stuck her head out the window was actually struck by a rock, this is a felony. It's assault with a deadly weapon because she did receive injuries causing her to get 16 stitches," said Lt. Mark Hudson.

Police continue to investigate the case but admit they need the public's help to track down the suspects.
