FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- As the search continues for the shooter who killed a man during a wedding reception, investigators are hoping the 300 guests can lead them to an arrest.

A man in his thirties was shot and killed at a wedding reception just southwest of Fresno city limits Saturday night.

"The smallest of details sometimes can turn out to be the most important," said Lt. Arley Terrence.

Neighbors say the wedding took place at a home near Marks and Annadale.

A man in his 30s was shot and killed while at a wedding reception near Marks and Annadale Avenues on Saturday evening.

"It wasn't off secluded somewhere it was right in where everything was taking place for the reception, so we believe there are lots of witnesses that we haven't yet talked to," said Terrence.

It was just after 10 p.m. on Saturday when deputies were called after gunfire erupted at an outdoor reception.

"They knew each other and the shooting occurred from some type of disturbance they had," said Terrence.

"I drove up and I saw a lot of cops. They didn't want to let me go in the street. I didn't know what happened," said Alex Aguirre.

Alex Aguirre was headed to his best friend's house when he was greeted by the glow of emergency lights from first responders.

"I don't even know what to think it's pretty shocking. I just hope the family next door is okay," said Aguirre.

Lt. Terrence says investigators are not releasing how many shots were fired but it was enough to send dozens of adults and children running for their lives.

A few of the guests stayed and pointed deputies to the victim. Some witnesses talked to detectives, but they're still struggling to piece together what happened. They know as many as 300 people attended the reception and the shooter opened fire there. They're not sure if the shooter was invited to the party or why the suspect targeted the victim.

"Someone was being shot and they were scared for their own safety and they were fleeing I don't think it was anything other than that," said Terrence.

As investigators spent nearly eight hours collecting evidence and interviewing the guests that stayed, they were able to recover a gun-- but are waiting on ballistics to determine whether that's the murder weapon.

Fresno County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting near Marks and Annandale Avenues that happened Saturday evening.

Anyone with additional information on the suspect(s) in this case is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at (559) 600-3111.

Detectives especially want to speak to anyone who was at the party, and anyone who might have photos or video from the area Saturday night.
