Valley Air says with these conditions you should limit your outdoor activities, especially children and people with chronic heart and lung disease. It says everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.

Several local water polo teams will not be able to finish their season after the California Interscholastic Foundation cancelled the NorCal Regional Water Polo Championships due to poor air quality.

Authorities at UC Merced canceled classes early Thursday to protect students as smoke from the devastating Camp Fire continued to make the air dangerous to breathe. Campus will be closed except for essential services.

While Merced City schools had red flag warnings posted at their campuses on Tuesday and kept students inside as much as possible.
