Man upset about breakup opens fire at Central Fresno home, police say
Police say drugs, alcohol and heartbreak led to gunfire inside and outside a home in Central Fresno Friday afternoon.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police say drugs, alcohol and heartbreak led to gunfire inside and outside a home in Central Fresno Friday afternoon.

Fresno police responded to a call about shots being fired at the home near Ashlan and Feland avenues. When they arrived, they found a man firing off rounds in the backyard of the house. Officers say he surrendered without incident and wasn't shooting at anyone, but he was upset about a recent breakup.

"He's distraught over a relationship that's been going south and henceforth had a little too much to drink and probably took some pills -- whether they're prescribed or not we don't know -- and accidentally fired off a round inside his house and then outside as well," said Clayton Smith with the Fresno Police Department.

No one was hurt in the incident. Police seized several guns from inside the home. The man arrested was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation.
