Man who promotes outdoors with 3 mules in tow spotted in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The man who's been making his way across the Western United States with three mules in tow was back in the Valley on Friday.

Action News first told you about John Sears a couple of years ago. He goes by the nickname "Mule" for obvious reasons. We spotted him in Downtown Fresno on Friday afternoon.

Sears says he's at home on the road and stays on the move to promote the outdoors. He says urban sprawl has taken the place of wide open space.

"We need a trail system connecting all communities to all communities, all states to all states," said Sears. "We're human beings; we're supposed to be outside, moving around, relating with nature."

Sears tells us he and his animals have been to more than 13 states over 29 years.
