FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Residents in the North Valley are showing their appreciation for local law enforcement agencies this weekend. They delivered 200 survival bags to Merced, Dos Palos, and UC Merced police. The Merced County Sheriff's Office was also included for national "Thank a Police Officer Day."

The event was organized by Deanna Escalante, whose nephew, Ishmael, was killed in Merced last December. She wanted to honor his memory and show gratitude for the detectives who continue to work on his case. The bags included a variety of items with special meanings, such as "Lifesavers" to represent the work officers do each day.
