Fresno, Calif. - You may notice synthetic Christmas trees and garland starting to line store shelves, plenty of retailers are saying-'Tis the season.
Retailers typically ramp up staffing to meet holiday shopping demands, but this time they are doing so ahead of schedule.
"With the labor market becoming tighter they're offering more position early to offer them longer employment periods rather than short stints of time," said Sean Akin, Pridestaff.
Akin says despite thousands of store closures and price cuts on merchandise nationwide, retailers are indicating a high demand for seasonal work.
"Here in Fresno we're getting a big impact in distribution and it directly affects retail because the majority of retail stores ship from those locations to partnering cities around the area," said Akin.
As spending habits shift toward online, warehouse and transport employment opportunities are on the rise.
"The retail side might be slowing down but manufacturing and distribution is at an all-time high," said Akin.
Macy's is increasing the number of temporary workers it is hiring for distribution and warehouses to 18,000 for the holiday season.
Target plans to hire around 100 thousand in store team members nationwide with an additional 45 hundred for distribution centers. On the contrary, Walmart is opting out when it comes to seasonal hires.
For a second year, the retail giant is offering extra seasonal hours to its already existing part and full-time work force.
Depending on the store, this could mean getting overtime.
"It allows us to ensure the most number of associates interested in picking up extra hours are able to do so," said Tiffany Wilson, Director of Communications.
As for next year, experts with Pridestaff say Ulta's expansion and Amazon coming to the Valley will bring even more employment opportunity.
