Man dies after shooting in Sanger, city's first homicide since February 2022

Police found a vehicle on Rainbow Road and California Avenue that they believe was involved in the crime.

SANGER, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man has died after being shot in Sanger on Tuesday morning.

The Sanger Police Department says it happened at 10:15 am near Sequoia and Faller.

When police arrived, they found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died.

"Our investigators along with the Fresno County Sheriff's Department, who is assisting, are still working on the investigation. We did find a vehicle that we think may be related to the event in a canal a couple of miles away from the scene," said Sanger Police Chief Greg Garner.

Garner said the victim has a criminal history.

He added this is the first homicide for Sanger since February 2022.

Meanwhile, people who knew Escutia are mourning his death.

Action News spoke to a woman who owns a business nearby.

For privacy reasons, she asked us to not show her face.



Her elderly father lives on the street where Escutia was shot and was sitting outside when it happened.

"You're sitting there in your yard, and you witness, kind of, traumatic thing, happening to your neighbor," said the neighbor.

She said her family has known the victim since he was little, and she's in disbelief after hearing he died.

"It's sad to hear the people that you've known since they were little, they're already gone for some nonsense reason, you know, it just doesn't make sense," said the neighbor.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to reach out to the Sanger Police Department.
