FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two people are looking for a new place to live after fire burned their upstairs apartment. The fire broke out just before 12:30 Tuesday morning at an apartment complex on Parkway near Ashlan.

Crews arrived quickly and contained the fire to just one apartment unit.

Firefighters believe smoking materials may have caused it. They said it's a good thing the flames did not spread.

Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Kirk Wanless said, "It did not extend up into the attic space, which is fortunate because we have eight total units here, and with probably 30 to 40 people here in these apartment units. Had it got into the attic, we'd probably be displacing all the occupants."

The other occupants at the complex were able to go back to their homes and no one was hurt.
