Girls Scouts Get a Lesson in Girl Power

KFSN More than a hundred Girl Scouts came out to this "girls in government" event in Northwest Fresno.

They got inspirational messages from women like Fresno County Supervisor Susan Anderson, Sheriff Margaret Mims, and Clovis City Council Member Lynne Ashbeck.

Lynne Ashbeck: "This is a great event for Girl Scouts to spend some time with women who have had success and experience in our community, to see what's possible. They can leave thinking about being the sheriff or being the district attorney or a city council member."

Speakers say one of the best things about the event was that the Girl Scouts learned details about some government jobs they didn't know about.

They figure that alone could convince some of the scouts to pursue government work and community service.
