Documents show Southwest Airlines violated safety checks

Inspections for cracks on older planes are required by the FAA.

Federal inspectors submitted documents obtained by CNN showing the airline flew more than 100 planes in violation of the safety checks.

According to the documents, some of the planes were not "air-worthy."

Two inspectors with whistleblower status say FAA managers knew about the lapse in safety checks but allowed the airline to fly the planes.

The whistleblowers have been subpoenaed to testify before the House Transportation and Infrastructure committee.
