Local Casino Unleashes Campaign

The North Fork Mono tribe has unleashed a newspaper ad campaign to duel with the ads trying to stop them from building a casino just off Highway 99. Opponents bought a full-page ad in the Fresno bee last week, claiming the Highway 99 casino is a losing bet, and that Las Vegas casinos are trying to change the rules.

The North Fork tribe's full-page ad Sunday says they're playing by the rules and lists all the agencies supporting them, including Madera County governments.

The tribe wants to build a mega-casino with a huge hotel, restaurants and bars on 305 acres, just west of the Highway, and north of Avenue 17.

There's a public hearing where you can talk about the casino plans on Wednesday night at 6, at the Madera Fairgrounds.
