Drastic Cut in Valley Water Deliveries

A little fish is the reason the Department of Water Resources decided Thursday to cut how much water it delivers. The fish is called Delta Smelt and they get killed in large numbers at the pumping plants on the San Joaquin Delta.

A federal judge told the state it had to stop using the pumps so much whenever the fish kill got too high. That means the valley, the bay area, and southern California could all get about 30% less water delivered this year.
