American Airlines Grounds More Planes

Flight 470 1:30 P.M.

It could be another rough day for travelers on American Airlines, including people trying to get to and from Dallas to Fresno.

American Airlines is pulling more planes out of service to re-inspect wiring on its MD-80 jets.

The Federal Aviation Administration found the planes still don't meet safety standards. The re-inspection could affect more than 500 flights out of Dallas and Chicago.

At this point, even the airline is not sure how many more flights will be disrupted today. "We were just in San Francisco for vacation. We are here from Ireland. It's very disappointing but what can you do," said tourist Patrick Forde.

As for local flights, American Airlines flight 1216 that leaves at 6:50 Wednesday morning from Fresno to Dallas has been canceled.

American said there's been no compromise to flight safety and apologizes to passengers for the missed flights. The Texas-based airline said it will try to arrange other flights for travelers and will also foot the bill for meals, hotels and ground transportation.
