A big group of volunteers will go house to house Saturday installing smoke detectors, as part of a program mostly made possible by Oprah Winfrey and her show, "The Big Give".More than 300 volunteers have signed up for what Cal-Fire officials are calling "The Big Save."

A donation from Oprah and ABC-30 has changed the face of the Cal-Fire program delivering smoke detectors to small communities.

The program was started after Ruvi and Anna Escalante died in a house fire, because their home did not have a smoke detector in it.

About 5,000 smoke detectors are expected to be installed Saturday.
