Organizers say the idea started in a classroom when an advisor suggested they find a way to express their concerns over current policies. Sean Lambert-Diaz, U.C. Merced freshman, sys "We just want to bring awareness to the issues that our government policies are not right and something has to be done, and just by being here we're showing that we do care about the rules and regulations of our country."
Most of the people involved in today's Merced march are members of the Chicano student group known as "Mecha."
