Cantrell Ellis' family became emotional on Tuesday as Ellis made his first court appearance for what may be a deadly love triangle. Some of them cried as Ellis exited his cell and entered the court room. Emotions also overwhelmed Ellis who stood in court with his head down and tears flowing from his eyes. Investigators say he murdered his estranged wife Charlotte Ellis last week at her Clovis home. The defendant's family describes the incident as a crime of passion. They believe Cantrell may have caught Charlotte having an affair with a long time family friend. Court documents indicate a man named Sadan Scott was also in the home and injured in the crime. But in court on Tuesday family members declined to talk details. Tammy Williams is Cantrell's cousin and said, "Just pray for us."

Cantrell is facing numbers charges including murder and assault. The defendant returns to court next week. At that time he is expected to enter a not guilty plea. He and the victim have two children who are staying with his family.
