Some of the birds are housed in cages so small they can't spread their wings.
The video was taken at facilities in Delhi and Hilmar. The two facilities are owned by Gemperle Enterprises in Turlock which distributes eggs.
The company owner said it's against policy to mistreat animals.
The Chicago-based nonprofit group "Mercy for Animals" began circulating the footage as part of its campaign to promote a California measure barring farms from confining animals in small cages.
