Portuguese Celebration

5/11/2008 Fresno, CA This parade through Easton features some of the young queens of the Portuguese community.

The parade route leads up to the Portuguese hall and that's where the queens have an important responsibility. They represent Queen Elizabeth, who made sure to feed the poor. So the girls are in charge of making sure everyone gets fed from the big vats of soup.

Cristino Lopes, Fresno, says "It's called Soupas. It's going to be cabbage, bread, broth and meat. And it's all donated and it's all free by our local community."

This isn't the end of the free food. The Portuguese community holds these celebrations in different towns all through the summer and everyone is welcome.
