Doctors are working to determine the cause of a seizure that sent Senator Edward Kennedy to the hospital and prompted an outpouring of support for the liberal political icon.A top aide said the 76-year-old Massachusetts Democrat spent a peaceful night at Massachusetts General Hospital and few further details of his condition are expected before a battery of tests was completed by tomorrow at the earliest.

The lone surviving son in a famed political family was flown yesterday morning to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after becoming ill and being treated at Cape Cod Hospital.

His physician says Kennedy did not suffer a stroke, as was first suspected, and had recovered enough by yesterday afternoon to watch a Boston Red Sox game on television.
