The highway patrol says the bicyclist was traveling westbound in the same direction as the bus when the man suddenly swerved in front of the bus. Officers say the driver of the bus tried to swerve to miss the bicyclist but couldn't avoid the accident.
Officers found a can of beer in the bicyclist's pocket and one on the ground. James Pennick, California Highway Patrol, says "He was weaving back and forth like a typical drunk driver."
The bicyclist was taken to a hospital and could be cited for riding while drunk.
