The driver lost control and the truck overturned, dumping dozens of crushed cars, blocking the eastbound lanes. A car carrying a 9-months pregnant woman en route to the hospital hit some of the cars. But no one was seriously hurt.
Sergeant Michael Green with the California Highway Patrol said, "I've been doing this for 20 years, just when I think I've seen it all, somebody surprises me. It's just fortunate that everybody did walk away, that's a good thing."
One lane reopened just before 7am Friday morning. The entire freeway is now clear.
