Wet Weather Changes Holiday Plans

5/26/2008 Fresno, CA Amanda, visit any popular Memorial Day hang out spot on Sunday and one thing was missing, people. While we were able to find a few making the most of this rainy weather, one business owner told us sales were so bad, the Fourth of July can't get here soon enough.

To some Valley residents the light rain falling from the sky is a painful reminder that this Memorial Day weekend has turned out to be a bust so far.

Only one sail boat could be seen on Millerton Lake when Action News cameras showed up Sunday afternoon.

Just one wave runner was ready to ride. Most of the overcast wet weather kept holiday vacationers at home which hurt Larry Calandra's Jet Ski business. "Today has to be the worst memorial day in the history of our jet ski rental business," said Calandra.

Roeding Park in central Fresno is typically packed on Memorial Day weekend but Anita Garcia found she and her family where the only ones there.

Lindsay Paul and her friend Mike Caissie found themselves dressing warm up in the sierra where it just snowed. Most of the snow melted Sunday however flurries were trying to stick. "Can't beat the weather. We're a little bit crazy but most people say that," said Caissie.

Making the best out of the rainy situation at Fresno's Woodward park were Linda Teliha and Linda Guzman. They just biked 20 plus miles in the drizzle and said it felt great.

Most everybody we spoke to said cooler weather was much better than triple digit heat.
