Westerlund Wins 2nd Term

6/4/2008 Fresno, CA Fresno City Councilman Larry Westerlund went to bed early Wednesday morning, still not knowing the results of his re-election campaign. The city councilman left the central valley two weeks ago, after being called to active duty in Iraq. He's currently at Fort Jackson in South Carolina, training before his departure overseas.

Westerlund used a webcam to talk to his friends and family members Tuesday night, who had gathered at a Fresno restaurant to watch the returns. He spoke to Action News just before he went to bed, whispering because fellow officers were sleeping nearby. "I gotta thank everybody who supported me and thank everybody who put in so much work and carried the flag forward while I was gone. I'm very grateful and very humbled," said Westerlund.

Westerlund's opponent Susan Good said she was very happy and proud of her campaign, "I walked every prencint and met such wonderful people, so how I feel is really good. I have no regrets. It was a wonderful experience and I'm glad I did it," said Good.

Fresno attorney Paul Caprioglio is filling in for Westerlund for the rest of his first term.
