Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus have just been found in two areas of Fresno County. The insects were found in the area of Highway 99 at the San Joaquin River and on the county's west side at the Mendota Wildlife Refuge.

These are the first confirmed cases of the virus in Fresno County this year. No human infections have been reported.

County Health Officials say dirty swimming pools are the leading source for mosquito breeding in residential areas of Fresno County.

To reduce the risk, people are asked to contact the county's Mosquito Abatement District to report swimming pools that are unattended.
