Overtaken in Omaha

6/22/2008 Omaha, NEB. The Bulldogs hadn't played since they beat the same North Carolina team on Tuesday, but they didn't look rusty at all.

The Bulldogs led 3-2 until the 8th inning and the trouble started when Kyle Seager visited the gap off of Justin Miller, despite a valiant effort by Steve Detwiler. Chad Flack came up next for the Tar Heels and he tried to give himself up with a bunt, but it went foul. A few pitches later, he wasn't bunting any more.

He caught a hanging slider and almost hit the giant scoreboard in left field at Rosenblatt Stadium for a two-run homer. That gave North Carolina their final margin of victory. A 4-3 win with Miller coming out the loser.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs still have another chance to make it to the national championship series and fans and players are still confident.

The elimination game between Fresno State and North Carolina will be Sunday afternoon at 4 pm on ESPN Classic.

Coach Batesole says he plans to pitch #2 starter Clayton Allison, but that was the plan Saturday too and Allison's shoulder has been bothering him.
