Many lifesaving medical treatments require platelet transfusions: including cancer patients, those receiving organ or bone marrow transplants, and victims of traumatic injuries. Because platelets can be stored for only five days, the need for platelet donations is continuous.
The blood center is preparing for an increased need for blood during the upcoming 4th of July weekend.
