Fire Update: Costal Fire Threatens Big Sur

6/27/2008 Fresno, CA The fire is raging through The Los Padres National Forest in the town of Big Sur. So far it's burned through 42-square-miles of land. Firefighters have strengthened their lines near populated areas, where about 575 homes were threatened. The fire is just 3% percent contained.

100 firefighters from Arkansas have arrived in the Valley to help local crews battle a series of fires in the foothills. Several families in the Ponderosa Basin area of Mariposa County are still under evacuation orders.

So far, the "Oliver Fire" has burned 2,000 acres in the Ponderosa Basin Area and it's 20% percent surrounded.

The other fires burning in our local foothills are just a few miles away.

The "Silver Knob" fire, just northeast Oakhurst has burned 480-acres and is now 60% percent contained.

The "Star Lakes" fire is in the back-country northeast of Oakhurst. It stands at 200-acres, but it's not surrounded at all.

The "Westfall" fire near Fish Camp burned just over 100-acres, but it's completely contained.
