Water continues to rise in Winfield, Mo.

Flood waters have ravaged the area
6/28/2008 TROY, Missouri Spokeswoman Marie Orlando says the water pressure caused the sandbag levee to lean in places, letting the water in, but engineers are planning to stand it back up.

The earthen levee protecting the town failed Friday after it had been weakened by a burrowing muskrat.

Missouri's governor says the effort to save the town has been a "race against time." Townspeople have been helping, but the building of the protective wall for about 100 threatened homes was left to the pros.
