Atwater Considers Shortening Work Week

Atwater, CA Atwater administrators are researching the possible benefits of switching city employees to four, ten-hour work days. Administrators said estimates show it could save $8,000 dollars per year in power bills, and 1,000 per month on gasoline.

Officials are concerned closing city offices on a weekday may be inconvenient for residents.

Atwater's Assistant City Manager said it will likely be at least a month before a final presentation is ready for the City Council. Any changes must be negotiated with employee labor unions.
