Power Situation in Clovis

Clovis, CA Power outages affected parts of Clovis on Thursday and Friday morning. PG&E crews got the electricity back on in one neighborhood South of Herndon and West of Sunnyside after a couple of hours.

But on the hottest day of the year, it was a bad time to be without air conditioning. David Chau and his wife sought refuge on their front yard. He said," It was so hot inside, and so, we just try to stay cool. Outside is cooler now so we're trying to stay out here."

In Downtown Clovis, business owners are sweating because of the heat, and big financial losses caused by another outage.

Leticia Mendoza was in her restaurant, Salsa, when an underground transformer blew just outside. She said," I got to see the explosion, it was smoke, I'm the one who called 9-1-1, there was a lot of smoke coming out."

PG&E tells her the power won't be back on until sometime Friday.

She said it's hurting her business a lot, "A lot. Yeah, I mean my Thursday nights are real, real busy."

It's also a night without business next door at Trelio restaurant. Owner Jim Shackleford said "We lost all our business for tonight, and depending on how long it takes them to get set up for tomorrow we've got to put the kitchen back together because we've got stuff strung all over everywhere trying to get power to them. It will be a big impact for us tonight and tomorrow."

Jim has generators going to keep his refrigerators running.

They are hoping things will be back to normal in downtown Clovis by sometime tomorrow morning.

Power was restored in North Clovis by around nine Thursday night. Power was resored in Downtown Clovis at 6:10am on Friday morning.
