Safety Alert Sent to Fashion Fair Merchants

7/18/2008 Fresno, CA Fashion Fair mall management sent out a safety alert to all the stores with a warning about a robbery. It says that back on July 7th a suspect holding what appeared to be a handgun robbed a merchant making the nightly deposit inside the mall near this entrance.

Both the mall and Fresno police aren't talking. However, Action News has learned that at least one other merchant was robbed doing the very same thing, in the very same spot two weeks earlier inside the mall after hours.

The victims were both managers at neighboring stores in this new addition outside the mall. The first victim didn't want to speak on camera, but said the man who grabbed for her night deposit bag did not have a gun, but may have gotten bolder.

Other mall managers like Jennifer Contino were stunned to hear there were two robberies, not just the one they were told about in the memo. "It's not good because all of our safety is important."

Contino says she still feels safe working at the mall, but she's worried about who's behind these crimes. "These people obviously know that the deposits are being made at that time," says Contino.

In its memo, Fashion Fair says it cooperating fully with police, and that the safety of merchants and shoppers remains priority number one.
