The police cruiser's dash cam caught the crash. The officer was thrown to the ground then got up and called for help.
Tests show the driver who caused the crash had a blood alcohol content two and a half times the legal limit.
To prevent future accidents like this officers are now urging drivers to move over when they see flashing lights on the side of the road.
