Volunteers Needed to Help Evacuees

7/27/2008 Fresno, CA They loaded up a disaster relief truck with cots, blankets, and food for people staying at Mariposa elementary school.

Volunteers say their work is critical and they still need more help. Chris Theile, Red Cross volunteer, says "It's real important because I feel there's a lot going on right now, disaster-wise, and the more volunteers we can get, the better it is for us."

The fire overwhelmed the Merced-Mariposa chapter of the Red Cross because they don't usually see disasters of this size.

The Fresno chapter is helping out, but they won't get any financial support from the national Red Cross since this is considered a local disaster.
