Fresno Man Builds Electric Car

Fresno, CA, USA Cooper Hilscher invested a lot of money and sweat to turn this ordinary 1966 Volkswagon Bug into an electric vehicle. Hilsher's creation made its debut Thursday at a car show in north Fresno.

His Volkswagen runs on ten batteries and plugging in costs just pennies a day. Hilscher says he's ready to take his knowledge and help others in the Valley who want to plug in instead of filling up.

Cooper Hilscher: "We're going to use... company car."

Hilscher claims his car gets more than sixty miles per charge. He puts the cost of converting an older model car at about fifteen thousand dollars.
