"Agnes over here ... this card."
For some residents of Fresno's Nazareth House playing bingo is the highlight of their day.
For Rosa Lazalde coming to visit the seniors who live here is the highlight of her week.
Rosa Lazalde: "I have to be around people. I love to be around people. They just happen to be elderly more so than me."
She retired from her job at the IRS eight years ago ... Since then she and her husband Ray have been volunteering at this senior living facility twice a week.
"Now it's like home on Tuesdays and Fridays."
"They see us and they go "Bingo?" because they recognize us as being part of the Bingo group."
Rosa knows the seniors appreciate the visits and she gets just as much in return.
"You have some residents here that are over 100 years old so there is a lot of good information."
Including a couple of good recipes.
"There are a lot of Italian folks here so I ask them about their spaghetti."
On Mondays Rosa volunteers at her church and Wednesdays and Thursdays.
She's at Catholic Charities helping with clerical work and writing thank you letters to donors.
"All the places that I volunteer I enjoy, I enjoy doing it."
And the feeling is mutual. Bernice Sandoval from the Nazareth House admires Rosa's dedication.
Bernice Sandoval: "Rose does things from the heart. She never expects anything in return."
That's because for Rosa volunteering, as they say, truly is its own reward.
"I find myself getting up with a little pain here or there I come here and that's my medicine. The pains disappear."
