After being arrested the other driver, identified as Donna Pottorff was hospitalized with serious injuries.
The Her family is now struggling with what to do. Family and friends have gathered at the couple's home to try and comfort their eleven children.
Danieng Xiong, a relative and family spokesperson says, "Everyone is coping with it, they are grieving right now trying to plan for the funeral. It's been really sad. It's just a sad time for the family."
Chatia and Chou Her emigrated to the United States from Laos in the 1970's. Their eleven children range in age from four, to 29. The family will pull together to take care of the youngest children and an aged grandmother. Many lives now turned upside down because of someone suspected of driving drunk.
Speaking for the family Danieng Xiong says, "They want to send out a message about drinking and driving, that you do put people's life at stake, and they lost their mom due to that reason, and their dad in critical condition right now. They want everybody's support and prayers."
The family is facing financial hardship and asking for help. Contributions can be made to the Her Family Memorial Trust Fund at Bank of the Sierra.
Funeral Services for Choua Her are scheduled for Sunday at the /*Hmong Memorial Chapel*/. A Mass will be held Monday at /*Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church*/.
