Getting Your Vote

8/10/2008 Fresno, CA, USA An exclusive Action News poll, conducted by SurveyUSA, showed that 65% of central valley residents oppose gay marriage. But supporters are trying to convince people to vote against Prop 8 in November.

The ballot measure would put an end to the gay marriages the State Supreme Court legalized in June. Eight years ago, 61% of California voters upheld the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.

Prop 8 opponents say the tide is turning now, but supporters say they disagree, and they don't appreciate hearing the message on a Sunday.

Jason Scott, Opposes Prop 8, says "I think a lot of people's attitudes have changed on the subject since 2000 and I think a lot more people are in support of same sex marriage than there were in 2000, so I think this is actually coming along with the times."

John Klassen, Supports Prop 8, says "I believe that's not the way God set it up. It should be between a man and a woman; if you have a man and a man, why not a man and a horse, or a woman and a house?"

Same sex marriage supporters plan to be outside valley stores every Saturday and Sunday until the election.
