Pedestrian Killed Identified

8/23/2008 Fresno, CA, USA Fresno Police are investigating two deadly accidents involving pedestrians. Both happened in downtown Fresno Friday night.

The first accident happened at Fresno and M Street when a FAX bus struck 74 year old Padilla-Ortiz just before 8:30 p.m.. Police say the victim appeared to have been in the crosswalk, but at this point it's unclear who was at fault. He was pronounced dead at Community Regional Medical Center.

Just as members of the Fresno Police Department's accident reconstruction team wrapped up that investigation, they received word of another accident, this time at Divisadero and Effie. Police say a 72 year old man in a wheelchair was in the middle of a lane when a driver of a vehicle swerved to miss him. A driver in a second vehicle was unable to react in time and hit the man. He was pronounced dead at Community Regional Medical Center.
