Arson investigators examine an overnight fire at a South Los Angeles Church that was under construction. The blaze broke out just after midnight in the 1200 block of Cooper Avenue.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames at the two-story structure.

Marvin Bemheim, the church pastor, lives behind the building and said someone woke him up screaming, "The church is on fire."

Bemheim claims the church has been a target, but he said he has no idea who is making the threats.

"We've had threats that they were gonna burn down the church. I called the police about five months ago telling them," he said.

Investigators said they are looking into the pastor's claims.

No one was hurt by the blaze.
