"We needed something different that has a lot of variety and it looks like this place will do that," said Clovis resident Darrellyn Colldar.
The nightclub has three bars and a stage for live music. There are only two others Cabo Wabos. One is in Lake Tahoe and the original is in Cabo San Lucas. For some, attending Friday's grand opening was a way to relive the past. "We went to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, about 20 of us, on New Year's Eve. So we're all meeting here for a reunion, said Fresno resident Bob Kodman.
Others came to pay homage to rocker Sammy Hagar, who founded the chain. Some in this group of self proclaimed 'redheads' traveled from as far away as Salinas and Bakersfield to be here on opening night. "We do everything he says as far as, he says 'wear this', we wear this. He says 'drink this', we drink this. He says 'dance like this, party like this'. We dance like that, we party like that. We have a good time," said Jeanette Akers of Salinas.
Sammy Hagar wasn't in Fresno for the grand opening, but developer Milton Barbis says Fresnans will see the rocker himself very soon. "There's a good shot he would be here when there's something important coming up for Mexico in the next month… Independence day, you might see him here," said Barbis.
