Valley Residents Gallop to the Big Fresno Fair Race Tracks

Big Fresno Fair, CA, USA Horse racing at the Big Fresno Fair is the last stop for many of the live races in Northern California. It's the one time of the year many Valley residents said they couldn't wait for. It's also traditionally a day many people take off from work.

Debbie Sciacqua from Madera said: "Invite the boss to come and then you don't have a problem being here and being on TV!"

Miguel Sanchez from Dinuba said: "I get Fridays off so that comes in handy."

Wagering expert Robbie Rodriguez said if you're not certain who to bet on do your homework.

"Horse racing is all about the odds. The key to the way I play is finding value. Everybody has hard earned money out there and before I wager my hard earned money on any animal I want to make sure that the horse offers some sort of value," said Rodriguez.

Preparing the horses before they race is trainer Candice Coffee from Ridgecrest. She is responsible for grooming, shoeing and the overall health of 17 horses.

"The one on the end is a first time starter so it will be her first time that she's ever raced. I've had her all summer and she got sick so I had to stop on her and I've worked all summer on her," said Coffee.

Dan White is the chief of racing at the fair. He makes sure all 600 horses here have a safe, fast track to run on and that guests are comfortable in the stands.

"We normally start about 3 months out prior to the races prepping. It's exciting especially when a race goes off and you have 10,000 people in this grand stand and their all cheering for their horse coming in," said White.

Races continue to run through the final day of the fair on October 13th. The only days off at the tracks are Monday and Tuesday next week.
