Fish Pedicures Banned in Washington State

National News The procedure uses tiny fish to nibble dead skin off the feet. A nail salon in Kent, Washington began offering the pedicures several weeks ago.

Customers pay 30 dollars to have small, toothless carp nibble their feet for 15 minutes. But the state department of licensing decided the procedure was unsanitary and potentially unsafe.

State law requires that all instruments in pedicures be sanitized, and there's just no way to sanitize live fish.

The pedicures are popular in Turkey and Asia. The owner says she hopes the state will reconsider. In the meantime, she says she'll take the fish home as pets.
