Edison Grade Change Investigation

Fresno, CA, USA He remains on leave from the job after raising questions about an "A" grade that he says he never gave.

Math teacher Jeff Powell is blaming a school administrator for changing a student's grade. Powell said the Edison football player should have failed. But instead Powell believes someone wanted him to remain on the team.

Jeff Powell has been a teacher for twenty years. Powell said the Edison student in question earned an 'F' ... Missing more than 60 classes last spring. He said ... "I don't see any reason how this kid could get a passing grade unless there was a higher authority changing it."

Powell declined to talk on camera. The Edison math teacher has been on paid administrative leave while school officials investigate ... Who changed the student's grade from an 'F' to an 'A' . Powell did not want to name the student, saying ... "He seems to be a nice guy, never had any arguments or fusses but he stopped coming to class at the beginning of the semester."

Edison's football program was already cleared of wrongdoing. Powell wants the same. "I live on a principal of honor ... Do what's honorable and you never cheat. I want to do what's right."

Fresno Unified Administrators said this is a very long, complicated investigation. Powell was scheduled to meet with an investigator to answer more questions. Powell welcomes the investigation and hopes to return to Edison when this is all over.
