Tulare Woman Accused of Fake Kidnapping Released From Jail

Fresno, CA, USA Last Friday Ramirez claimed she and her three year old daughter were kidnapped from their home in Tulare, by two or more masked men.

Ramirez appeared at a rural home Friday night. Her hands were bound with a plastic zip-tie. Her clothes were torn and dirty and she told the resident she had been abducted, dumped out of her car, and that someone had kidnapped her baby.

Tulare Police issued a statewide Amber Alert, but it was cancelled about an hour later when the little girl was found in her mother's car, about a mile from their home. The child was unhurt but her hands and feet had been bound.

After questioning the child, and Ramirez, police arrested the young mother, believing she had fabricated the story and staged the kidnapping.

But on Wednesday, Tulare County Deputy District Attorney Don Galleon said, "Additional investigation was necessary before a case could be filed." Galleon added, " We haven't decided whether we're going to file the case eventually or not."

He noted Ramirez would be released without any holds because she was not considered a flight risk. Family members greeted Ramirez outside the Bob Wiley Detention Center near Visalia Wednesday night. A woman embraced her, wrapped her in a blanket then hustled her into a waiting pickup truck. A male relative told Action News, she was not going to talk to the media, because "she has been through enough already."

The little girl has been living with her father, an ex-husband of Ramirez. Another child has also been staying with a relative while Ramirez was in custody.
