Keeping You Safe in the Fog

11/13/2008 Fresno, CA, USA The two agencies have teamed up to try to prevent a repeat of last year's deadly pile-up on Highway 99.

As Action News showed you earlier this month, the two agencies also expanded on their new traffic system, which includes a fog and weather sensor, closed circuit cameras, and message boards.

The National Weather system has also joined the effort to get the word out about dangerous driving conditions. Chief Jim Abrames, California Highway Patrol, says "It provides them with the information that we have a dense fog situation in a specific area and that allows us to activate the emergency alert system and that information goes out over the radio and that's where we're hoping most people in their cars are listening to so they'll get that real time info."

The CHP also showed off a series of billboards featuring the artwork of local students. The art is also being used to promote driver safety during the fog season.
